DRINKSThe
Triton has been serving quality ales, wines and other
cold drinks to weary travellers (it was once a coaching inn on
the main
road to Hull, halfway between Welton and South Cave) for
around 200 years. In recent years the choice has varied
somewhat - we plan to extend the range and vary it to cater
for our customers.
Before reopening The Triton we carried out extensive research to ascertain what drinks our target clientelle preferred. Being free from a brewers tie enabled us to go to a variety of sources and we have now assembled a strong range of drinks - see our initial listing on the right. This will be extended steadily, so if you have a favourite drink, why not drop an email to us to make a suggestion? Or just mention it to one of The Triton Team next time you pop in. If you want to know any more about individual drinks, many of the names and logos on the right have links which will take you straight to the web site of the manufacturer or distributor.

DRAUGHT
BEERS
![]() ![]() Run by farmer Tom Mellor, Wold Top Brewery is Yorkshire’s newest micro brewery and was established in 2003. They produce award-winning beer from fine ingredients using traditional brewing methods. Their Wold Top Bitter is their flagship ale. It's an easy drinking session beer with good head retention and a medium to light colour. Made from Maris Otter and a small amount of Crystal malt together with Northdown Hops, plus some locally grown hops and water pumped from the ground below the Wolds. This is our top selling beer; its fruity, tasty, and quenching - a great session beer. COPPER DRAGON BREWERY's GOLDEN PIPPIN
A Great Yorkshire
Beer. The Copper Dragon Brewery at Skipton brew some
marvellous beers - so we usually offer their Golden Pippin
as our 'long cool light blonde' and it seems to be going
down very well.
John Smiths Smooth John
Smiths
is the UK's biggest selling bitter, thanks partly to several
pretty excellent TV and cinema advertising campaigns, thanks also
to their advertisements featuring comic Peter Kay and possibly
part due to the brewery's sponsorship of The Grand National.
We sell a lot of it and if you like a nice cool keg beer, there is probably none better. Guinness The
authentic
black stuff - brewed in Dublin. Guinness might not be everyone's
cup of tea, but it is still the world's best selling stout, and
has been since the draught version became available in 1959.
The taste is variously descrbied as being of roasted unfermented
barley and with a sharp lactic flavour (a rival used to market
itself as "milk stout"). The famous drink is now available in almost every country in the world and is certainly a dry stout, based on porter, which was first brewed in London in the 1700s - thats when The Triton first opened its doors to drinkers. Studies show that Guinness can be beneficial to the heart. Researchers found that antioxidant compounds in Guinness, similar to those found in certain fruits and vegetables, are responsible for health benefits because they slow down the deposit of harmful cholesterol on the artery wall
Peroni Lager
One
of the best known Italian lagers, this is now the leading imported
lager into the UK. Its the strongest lager we currently sell.Carling The
UK's top selling lager and heavilly marketed to football
supporters and in motor racing. It's crisp, its cool - a
refreshing taste when properly cooled. Ours at The Triton is
served 'extra cold' thanks to a special glycol based super-cooling
plant in our cellar. Some of us with longer memories still recall the 'block of ice' Carling font on the bar with some fondness, and its full name, which was Carling Black label. Stella Artois 5.1% abv Stella was named after the Christmas star by the brewery's founder, a Belgian called Sebastian Artois. It has always been a premium brand lager, with a strong alcoholic content and a distinctive taste. The 1306 date on some labels refers to the date of the first pub in Belgium - the Artois brewing business only began in the early 1700s which is about a generation before The Triton first opened its doors. CIDERS The
three
draught ciders we sell in The Triton are the UK's top two
selling brands, both made by Bulmers, plus
Weston's Old Rosie - a real cloudy hand-pressed Scrumpy. A popular, traditional cider, Old Rosie is allowed to settle out naturally after fermentation resulting in a truly old fashioned, full flavoured, appley, cloudy Scrumpy, with a well balanced medium dry character It is quite fitting that we should sell Old Rosie, as its named after an old steam powered traction engine, a 1921 Aveling Porter. If you look at the font you can see a picture of Old Rosie on there, which you can have a ride on if you visit the Weston's Cider Press in Herefordshire. The Triton used to have one of those based right outside the pub - it was rented out to farms around this end of the Wolds, and also to Mr Blackburn when he owned the aircraft factory in Brough. They used it to drag the first sea planes off the Humber and back onto the airfield, now owned by B Ae Systems. Weston's Stowford Press

Bottled Ciders We also offer
Magners
William Magner began pressing cider in Clonmel, Ireland, in
the 1930s. He joined forces with Bulmers some time later. The
cider is identical to Bulmers, even the labels are the same
(except the name) Bulmers and Magners ciders are made from 17
varieties of apples, fermented and matured for up to two
years.
both in pint size bottles.
Gaymers ![]() One of the UK's oldest cider pressers, Gaymers was founded back in 1770, although it is now now owned by Constellation. We usually keep their excellent Pear Cider (also known as perry) in stock, again in one pint bottles.
