. . . . dancing
at The Triton
. . . . .
We hold a variety of Dinner
Dances throughout the year
in the Triton Ballroom. These
are
mostly small intimate affairs with up to 70
people; a superb two course meal with choice
of each course, served to your table by our
waiters and waitresses (who will also get
your drinks for you).
The current Dinner Dance menu is shown
here; simply click on it to download a
copy. We change this every couple of months,
to match what fresh produce is available,
but we always offer a choice of a meat and a
fish for the main course and vegetarian
options are always available.
Many of our customers have said that a three
course meal is too long / too much when they
are going to have a dance as well, so we now
offer this as a two course, with the option
of ordering desserts from our regular men u,
should you wish. The option is yours. If you
have any problems downloading the menus just
call us on 01482 667261 and we shall mail
you a copy.
During
dinner
service we play quiet, relaxing,
easy-listening music in the background, and
then afterwards its a lot livelier with YOUR
favourite tunes for dancing. The music
follows the evening's theme which is usually
one or more of the following genres or eras:
Ballroom Motown 60's and 70's ROCK
Dinner Dances are an ideal way to spend an
informal evening, wither as a couple or as a
larger party. Ages are mixed, all are
welcomed.
And
all for £16 per person!
The 'open to the public' Dinner Dances scheduled
over the next couple of months are:

Sixties
& Seventies Dinner Dances
Our
'Sounds of the Sixties & Seventies' Dinner
Dances have proved a great success with diners
enjoying a sumptuous three course meal, during
which we play laid-back easy-listening tunes, and
then afterwards, dancing to your favourite sounds
of the 1960s.
Your host Paul spins music by all the big name
artistes such as the Beatles, The Rolling Stones,
the Kinks, Small Faces, plus a host of Tamla
Motown and soul / disco tracks too, not to mention
some pretty obscure but much loved favourites that
somehow never seem to get an airing these days.
With his record collection boasting over 84,000
items, there isn't much he cannot lay his hands on
- why not challenge him to play YOUR favourite?

Gauged by requests, and by how many filled the
floor to dance to them, the most popular
tracks seem to be the dance hall standards such as
Chris Montez's Lets
Dance, Little Eva's Locomotion,
Free's All
Right Now, and the Crystals' Da
Do Ron Ron - all evoking memories of
nights at the Locarno
Ballroom, The
Trees club in North Ferriby or the Westfield
Club in Cottingham. Sing-a-long tunes are
also very popular - on the dance floor everyone
seems to join in with Lulu's version of 'Shout',
and the Drifters classic "Saturday
night at The Movies" (or Saturday
Night at the Triton as we prefer it
sung!) but even the slowies get folk joining in.
Among the most popular recently have been Neil
Diamond's Sweet
Caroline, Gerry & The
Pacemakers' You'll
Never Walk Alone and Elvis's 1970 number
one hit The
Wonder of You - but his Can't
help
Falling in Love is the one that gets
everyone joining in, especially the Tigers fans of
course.

Soul and
Motown
We also have nights when the music is
much more soulful and have done a couple of
'all Northern Soul' music sessions, with the
music of Tamla Motown being eternally popular
at almost every session. We play a mixture of
'poppy' soul from the Tamla
Motown catalogue - the Supremes, Four
Tops, Temptations, Stevie Wonder, plus the Philly
soul standards from the OJays, Harold Melvin,
Teddy Prendergast, the Three Degrees, and then
some really eclectic Northern Soul sounds plus
much much more. You choose - let us know
what you like and we shall probably include
it. Here is a list of just a few
of the most requested 'soul' tunes at the
Triton recently:

Music
Rock
music too usually fills the dance floor at The
Triton - the usual well-known tracks like
Free's "All Right Now", Thin Lizzy's "The Boys
Are Back in Town", "Summer of 69", "All summer
long', various Springsteen and Bowie cuts, and
any number of tracks by the Stones, Deep
Purple and so on. In
July we had a private party of dentists in the
Triton Ballroom and we were astonished at
their excellent taste - Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir",
Motorhead's "Ace
of Spades" and of course, the Deep
Purple ubiquitous classic "Smoke
on the Water". Mind you., they
also requested 'Ride
of the Valykries" which we obliged
with but, as expected, no one got up to dance
to it! Even Valentine's Night wasn't a
rock free zone - Paul slipped in tracks by
Motley Crue, Zep and Alice Cooper!
DRESS
CODE?
You don't have to come dressed 'in period',
though if you do then you may win a spot prize
for your efforts and style - which may be why
Austin Powers tries so hard!
Many of those attending our popular 'Sixties
dinner dance' functions (usually held on the
last Friday of each month, but with additional
sessions most months - see posters and
elsewhere on this site for full details) DO
come in period dress. Some
still; have original 'clobber' (remember
calling your clothes clobber, or 'gear' ?) and
it does help add to the atmosphere.
Here on the
right is shot of Steve, Siouxie, Chris
and Paula who really know how to have a
great time; they are seen dancing out on the
car park (to cool down) in June.
Chris was up boogie-ing away for most of the
evening and when the girls couldn't keep up
with him he chose a less demanding partner in
the form of the coat stand; Chris just
pretended it was Twiggy he was dancing with -
very 1960s!
Ballroom
& Fifties
We
have
a larger then usual dance floor for these
evenings so dancers have plenty of space
for their manoevres. We are neither
formal, formation, sequence nor strict and
simply play favourite ballroom styles and
numbers and let YOU decide how you wish to
dance.
The tunes and dances are called and
announced and then its up to you;
predominantly waltzes, foxtrots, rumbas
etc, but with many old favourites too,
including jive and some smoochy numbers
from the best crooners of the fifties.
On St. Georges Day we had an excellent
session with Jackie celebrating her
birthday with a party of friends and
others just enjoying themselves, gliding
around the floor. Rock'n'roll music seemed
to go down best with the floor filling up
with jivers , although we also had a few
who fancied the Gay Gordons. No one could
quite manage a Paso Doble though!
Christmas Parties at The Triton
We also stage Christmas Party evenings throughout
December in the Triton Ballrooom - scroll down to
the bottom of the page to see one of the leaflets
and a pricing guide. These 'Christmas Party
with a Dinner Dance' evenings are also very
popular for private office parties - call Anne onj
01482 667261 to discuss the special rates
available on certain evenings.

Celebrations
& Congratulations &
One
June "60s & 70s" Dinner Dance was
particularly remembered for the 44th Wedding
Anniversary of Mike
and Anita Mays, (seen here on the
right) who are probably two of the nicest
people in Brantingham! They showed us all
how they danced when Mr
Tambourine Man was number one 45
years ago. They would have dressed up had
they known they known and have promised to
do so next time they come - Mike still has
all his clothes from the 1960s!
At
the 1960s Dinner Dance on 24th July we were
delighted that all but six of those
attending did so in full sixties period
dress, including three remarkable young
ladies dressed as Diana Ross and The
Supremes, complete with long fluttery
eye-lashes. There were hippies galore,
festooned with beads, bangles and topped
with headbands, the hottest hot-pants
imaginable, delightful dresses and some
eye-catching mini skirts too!
Most were celebrating the 60th birthday of
our good friends Ian and Lorraine from South
Cave, resplendent in sixties garb - Ian had
amazing shades and black hair, while
Lorraine had managed to find a black Dylan
hat, as worn by John Lennon. There
were prizes for the 'Best Dressed boy /
girl,' etc and among the winners were
Paul Hesse (who even had a garland of
flowers around his neck) and Doug, who had a
CND medallion and the most amazing stack
heels (called Cuban heels in the sixties!).
Lorraine's sister Roz was also a clear
winner with her magnificent multi-coloured
rainbow dress (she claims to have bought it
in a joke shop for £20, but the superb fit
suggest she had it tailor made as it fitted
her like a glove!), set off with not quite
so fetching purple woolly tights!
Celebrating their 39th Wedding Anniversary
were Paul and Cathy - she had a lovely white
hat, as work by Twinkle and Cathy McGowan!
Also celebrating a Wedding Anniversary were
their friends Dave and Kath. There was
a terrific party atmosphere, with most
joining in the silly songs too, including
the Hokey
Cokey and The
Conga! Quite amazed by it all were
four young ladies who had just come in for
what they thought would be a quiet hen night
- bride-to-be Tina gets married on Friday
31st.
The
Triton's monthly Dinner Dance is becoming
THE place to dress up in sixties gear for -
so get your glad rags on and come and join
us! Triton Dinner Dances include a
waiter-served, individually prepared, a
superb
meal with all our drinks being at regular
bar prices, plus some special offers on
wines and champagnes. It's an excellent way
to give someone (and yourself) a great night
out; for latest table availability call us
on 01482 667261.
There's
always
a warm welcome at The Triton,
where we believe that the art of making people welcome is one
worth preserving.
