![]() While the mainstay of The
Triton is our food operation, we also offer various forms of
entertainment, pitched squareely at our core
customers - so expect some style, elegance, sophistication and
even a
little maturity!
Each area of the Triton has its own dedicated background music system, playing out carefully chosen tracks to appeal to our customers. We listen very carefully to views and opinions and incorporate requests and suggestions into the programmes of music. We have a library of almost 70,000 items, so its likely that we have YOUR favourites too. Weekday lunches in the bar for example we play melodies from the 50s and 60s as thats when we run our Pensioners' Special lunches. In the evening the music changes again to be more up to date, but still pretty easy in style. Our aim is that the music sets a relaxed mood, is interesting, but never offensive. (Thats a taller order than it sounds - there is always someone who will claim to be offended by the most innocuous tune!). We avoid strident and beat-laden music while people are eating but most sessions will include tracks by as diverse artistes as Alma Cogan or AC-DC, through Perry Como, Sinatra, Streisand to ZZ TOP and the Zombies. Niel Diamond, Van Morrison, Julie London, Peggy Lee, Supertramp, Bob Marley, Bob Dylan, The Doors are all heard almost daily - and we encompass most genres. Blues and Jazz are very popular, but so too are swing, light classical, light rock and reggae. The music we play reflects the wide diverse tastes of our wide customer base. In the restaurant we have an automatic baby grand piano - the only one in Yorkshire (to date) which plays gently in the background whilst diners are eating. The instrument can be played as a regular piano (or as an organ) and the restaurant also hosts live appearances by musicians from time to time. ![]() A duo who proved very popular were SAX APPEAL, featuring Caz and Jake playing a range of dinner jazz standards, smooth romantic ballads or plain old rock'n'roll, soul and party music. They have , sadly, disbanded (great word for when musicians 'break up!) and gone their separate ways - we still have Caz from time to time and perhaps will have Jake come and play sax for us again one day. Among the artistes who appear at The Triton from time to time are
![]() PHIL MARSHALL JESS BANNISTER ANDY CORNFOOT The restaurant also has a DJ Booth, where our owner Paul has been persuaded to go back to his roots and spin a few tunes for party revellers (he was a disc jockey and compere at many local clubs, including the Locarno Ballroom / Tiffanys, Bierkeller, Penny Farthing, The Gondola, Kikos, Millionaires, several of the Scamps chain and the Baileys network too, before moving into radio. He is in great demand for private functions, and loves weddings, birthdays and so on, where people are determined to have a good time, but he also hosts the Triton's Dinner Dances. See the Dinner Dances page for more information. On
some evenings,
once everyone has finished their meal, we have dancing on our
superb
spring American Oak dance floor. In the last month this
has been
to such diverse styles of music as ballroom / orchestral,
rock
and roll, soul and hi-energy disco. The most popular
tracks
however have been Tamla Motown, Abba and Beatles tracks - which
perhaps
says something about our customers' tastes! The most
requested
tracks in the last few months have been The Locomotion, Young
Hearts
Run Free, Dancing in the
Street and Crazy. A schedule will be issued shortly of other entertainment which will include themed nights. We are considering staging the following special nights:
as well as comedy nights, quiz nights and other forms of entertainment There's
always
a warm welcome at The Triton,
whwew we believe that the art of making people welcome is one worth preserving. |
