hardhatRefurbishment - PHASE II
Work got underway on Monday 16th June to reconstruct the toilets at the Triton.  The refurbishment should last for 2 to 3 weeks but full service will be maintained at all times.

Towards the end of the month work will commence on construction of a new patio to the front of the building and a new entrance porchway. We are also taking the opportuinoity to further enhance the Triton by adding two large jumbrellas to the front which will be equipped with light and heat, to enable those who like to dine al fresco and those who like to partake of a cigar or cigarette after their meal to do so outside whatever the weather.  This work is expected  to be completed during July.

SAX APPEAL
 Live outside The Triton !

It was so hot on Sunday afternoon  (8th June) that we didn't think
many would want to sit in the restaurant for their lunch - it does get
rather hot in there being mainly glass on two sides.
So our jazz artistes SAX APPEAL agreed to set up and
play outside at the front of The Triton.

It was a superb gig, a lovely atmosphere with Caz's dreamy
vocals and Jake's soulful sax serenading the al fresco diners and drinkers
 with their sizzling syncopation.

Hopefully we shall have a lot more hot days this summer and
be able to feature more outdoor entertainment.

NEW TO THE TRITON         Tuesday 22nd July      Folk Tuesday
green gingers
Singing, Dancing and story telling in the traditional way with
        Green Ginger
    Sword and Dance

       and their   GARLAND LADIES

all welcome -  from 7.30 onwards    Admission FREE

Traditional May Day at The Triton
The May Day weekend traditionally marked the beginning of Summer (for hundreds of years before the Government moved that to some later date in June, perhaps as a prelude to their 'global warming' excuse for more taxes?).  The ladies of the village would make garlands of flowers and dance with them, to bring on hot sunshine to grow better crops.

The Triton marked the May Day weekend by celebrating in the traditional Olde English way with the help of the Green Ginger Morris & Sword.  Authentic old English music and Dancing at The Triton, and the Green Ginger men was, as usual, augmented by their delightful Garland Ladies.
Several dozen customers provided an appreciative audience and one or two even got up and joined in with the festivities.

The Green Ginger Morris & Sword are East Yorkshire's leading exponents of their art and have danced here at The Triton for many years on Boxing Day.  You can find a fully illustrated report about the Boxing Day dance out on the Green Ginger Morris and Sword's  web site (just click to be taken straight to it - but come back here soon!).

PS   If you can't find the MAY DAY Bank Holiday weekend in your diary, that's probably because the Government have now renamed it EARLY SPRING BANK HOLIDAY. Same day, its still a public holiday -  but its May Day holiday to us.  We were going to have a maypole too, but you can probably imagine  how difficult it would be to get approval from the 'Health & Safety' brigade for that!  Planning permission,  risk assessment, ambulance standing by, insurance cover in place, extra police drafted in, and probably a corresponding dance for non-pagans who we must not cause any offence to!

Teatime is Bargain Time
In response to several request from customers The Triton will be offering a special rate for food at teatime:  every weekday from 5pm to 6.30, we are now offering a 20% discount - that's off all meals right across the menu! Starters / Main Courses / Desserts and specials too -  a straight 20% off your food bill. (Not available in conjunction with other promotions).

New Menu and Wine List imminent           STOP PRESS - New menus operational from 22nd April
We changed to a late Spring menu towards the end of April. It features a new section of 'healthy eating options' with some great new ideas from our chefs. We have taken note of the many suggestions, requests and comments received from our customers and these are reflected in the new menu. Copies to take away are always available at The Triton, or we can mail one to you - just send us an email or call and leave your address and we shall mail one to you.  Alternatively, you can download a copy by clicking on the logo of the menu alongside.

We have also expanded our Wine List to offer some more 'new world' wines wich have proved very popular. The increasingly unfavourable exchange rate of the Euro means that many French wines are now much more expensive - some of our new Californian, South American and Australian wines offer much better alue for money.  Details of the new wines will be found on our wines page shortly.
UPDATE     Our current MENU  can be seen here   and our new WINE LIST can be accessed by clicking on just those words.
(Restaurant menu is still being debated and revised - an eternally ongoing project!).

Call My Quaff - a wine tasting with a difference!
At The Triton we try to generate a lively social atmosphere based on a simple philosophy: life is meant to be enjoyed and our duty is to help our customers enjoy it to the full!  "Call My Quaff" is a great evening of entertainment mixed with wine tasting.  While you will certainly learn something new about wines; this is not a stuffy formal wine lecture - rather a pleasant laid back evening where three wine lovers will bluff and mislead you in a series of wacky blind tastings.  Its a rather intemperate vinous variation on the time-honoured quiz game, "Call My Bluff".  Our own motley panel of wine aficionados will be competing with each other to baffle the audience - who are the real winners.

Our last 'Call My Quaff" session  was very popular and we have finally managed to book the perpetrators* once again. This time its to take place on Thursday 10th April, once again in the stylish and newly refurbished Triton restaurant (recently refurnished with again, with new tables). We can seat all sizes of party - from twos, fours, up to 20 people in one party - or you can book the entire restaurant for yourself!

The format is as follows:
The trio of wine experts will describe the mystery wines and their type, source, etc but two of them will be lying and you have to decide who is telling the truth, by drinking each of the wines! There are appropriate prizes for the winners and everyone has at least a one in three chance of getting the answers correct, so wine novices need not feel intimidated!

Enjoy a some fabulous food (the Triton’s famous luxury four course buffet) and a some superb Wines.  Convivial company,  and great fun, a full evening out that you will remember for a long time, and just £19 per person.

* The 'perpetrators' of Call My Quaff on 10th April will be Paul Livesy, a wine connoiseur and 'fine wines specialist' for a national wine vintners (oh, OK then: Waverley TBS!) Sue Hyde - a Brough resident and with decades of experience in the on trade  - having spent lengthy periods at both sides of the bar, and Peter Hall.  All three know their subject very well and their knowledge of wines is legendary - but who is telling the truth and who is bluffing?

IMPORTANT NOTE  - you will probably drink six or more wines - so please pre-arrange transport home

ANDY CORNFOOT BACK AT THE TRITON
AndyCornfootOne of East Yorkshire's best new talents is back at the Triton again on Friday 14th March and again later in April.

Andy Cornfoot is a terrific local singer-songwriter  who peformed his first gig here in February. It went down very well - so well that many customers (and staff) bought copies of his CD.

Andy won the Hull Talent trail two years ago and has built up a strong following among local music fans. His influences include the Stones, the Beatles, Oasis and Bob Dylan. He does covers of some of their songs and a good few of his own (Blue Jeans is terrific track - check it out on our music system at the Triton most evenings) and others.  You can see Andy live at the Triton on Friday 14th March;  his first set will be about 8.30, with a second set at about 9.45. Bound to include a fair sprinkling of tunes from  the 60s to the present day.  The gig is in the bar and its FREE ADMISSION. See you there we hope.
(Click on Andy's Picture to download a mini poster with more details)

Vote for your favourite lager
We withdrew C2 (half alcohol Carling) lager recently and are considering which product to replace it with. To be certain of choosing one that our customers want we are currently having  our own election at The Triton, where customers can VOTE for their favourite out of a list of seven lagers. The list includes Leffe, Staropramen, Kronenbourg 1664, San Miguel, Amstel, Hoegaarden  and Becks Vier.  We shall look at the votes on Good friday, and then decide which lager we shall bring on line on draught at The Triton, to enjoy the others -  Carling, Stella Artois and Coors Fine Lite.   All the votes will hen be put into a draw and the lucky winner will receive a case of lager (to be enjoyed at home, not in The Triton!).  Make sure you ask our bar staff for your entry / voting form, and get it into the ballot bax as soon as possib le.  Thanks for your input, and  Good Luck in the draw!
STOP PRESS -  the draw was made on Easter Sunday by our own bar-star, Leanne Thompson.   Paul Coverdale of Station Road in South Cave carries off the prize of a case of lager.
Voting was very close - it is neck and neck between San Miguel and Kronenbourg 1664 and we shall make a final decision on our new lager in the next few days.

New Pink Sax for Jake
sax appealTriton Restaurant regular entertainers SAX APPEAL have a new instrument in their armoury - a bright pink saxophone! Jake featured it at The Triton for the first time on Valentine's Day, and againat their March Sunday Afternoon Dinner Jazz gig here on March 9th. It sounds terrific, very funky indeed. We think it sounds especially brilliant when he plays The Theme from The Pink Panther on it - but come along and hear for yourself.

Sax Appeal's next Sunday Afternoon Jazz Session is on April 13th.  There is no cover charge - just buy your own Sunday Lunch from our restaurant menu (or have someone else buy it for you!). We recommend that you book a table as soon as possible as about half the tables have already been reserved.  Sax Appeal perform several sets from 2:30 to 5:30.

Sax Appeal also perform at weddings, and have done so all over the world.  You can find more information about them on their web site:

Valentine's Night SOLD OUT
menuOur special evening for lovers in Poseidon's Restaurant is now fully sold out.   We have two tables left in the lounge for the same menu, but at a lower price.
We have not reserved any tables in the Triton Bar on Valentine's Night - where we shall be serving our normal menu, but on a 'first come-first served' basis.
We open at 5pm as usual, and we can only wish you 'Good Luck' in getting a table - we are sure you will understand that on such a busy evening we cannot keep tables empty and open for long periods. By all means call us during the evening to see what availability is in the bar.

Click on the menu mini-pic here to see a copy of our Valentine's Day menu
(the same food is also available in the restaurant on Friday - we currently have some tables still open for Friday and Saturday)

New  Restaurant menu
<>Our new chef Robert Stratton has devised an excellent new menu for our restaurant and its now available. You can see it by clicking the icon on the right.  The dishes are absolutely fiurst class, using the best of local ingredients and of course, all dishes are freshly and individually prepared.

Forget the various food guides - they are probably months out of date (although the Hull Daily Mail on January 26th said that "  ").  Listen to what your friends say; and if they have been here recently they will probably tell you that The Triton serves great quality food, its pretty good value for money and they always make you welcome.  Then come and judge for yourself - we are pretty sure that you will be satisfied.

We are currently revising our bar menu and hope to publish a new one during early March  - watch this space!

.....FISH TUESDAY IS A GREAT SUCCESS
fishBeing named after a sea god, The Triton simply had to develop the menu so we could offer some excellent fish dishe. Each Tuesday is now FISH TUESDAY at the Triton when, in  addition to our regular menu, we also offer several 'specials'. These are usually a couple of sea fish, some fresh water fish and sea food such as lobster, crab, etc. These have proved so successful that we now find ourselves offering half a dozen special fish dishes each Tuesday.  Our suppliers recognise the value of the Triton's Fish Gourmets (we have several fishing industry luminaries among our clientele who know a thing or two about fish) and often make special new dishes available to us first. There are often some great bargains to be had!

Or why not try our 'Banquet of the Oceans' - a huge platter (designed for 2 people to share, but some say that it's enough for 4!).
A whole shoal of sea and fresh fish plus some sea food too - ask for details.
