THE
TRITON TEAM
The Triton team are one of
the establishment's key attractions. They are often the reason
our customers select us for their fine dining experience, and
why they come back time after time. The Triton's first
class reputation was built on top quality service, and for
many years was the flagship of the Jackson's' chain of Eating
Houses, which included the Ferguson Fawcett at Walkington, the
Pipe and Glass at South Dalton and the Dacre Arms at
Brandesburton.
Leading
the team are owners Paul
and Anne Rusling. They have run several
pubs in London & the south east such as the Halfway
House in Dunstable (a huge place, now the headquarters of
the Beefeater chain), the Black Lion on the banks of the
Thames at Chiswick Mall, The Crystal Palace Hotel in south
London where they promoted reggae concerts with artists such
as Desmond Dekker and other music genres, the Swan Hotel on
the Pantiles in Royal Tunbridge Wells and the Punch Tavern
in Whitstable, a well known pirates' haunt, which was used
as a base for a radio station set up by Screaming Lord
Sutch. Anne has worked at and
managed several well known restaurants and night clubs:
Spencer Arms in Hull, some Berni Inns, through Wakefield
Tiffany's, to five star silver service establishments.
Most of Paul's non-catering work has been in radio: he began
working as a Disc Jockey in night clubs while still at
school and has been resident DJ at such well known
establishments as the Bier
Keller,
Tiffany's (aka The
Locarno in Hull), Scamps
and Baileys.
His broadcast career includes stints on Radio
Caroline where he hosted the breakfast show in the
early 1970s and with Laser
558, Sky Radio, Classic FM, Virgin and several
European stations. A radio adventurer, Paul has worked on
new radio ventures in various countries, from the Isle of
Man to Lithuania via Holland, Gemany and Poland.
When Paul and Anne took
over the Triton it was closed and had no staff, enabling
them to build a new team from scratch. Having been regular
customers at the Triton themselves, as well as at many other
restaurants in the area for around twenty years, they were
able to carefully select the first class team the Triton
needed, using the best staff available, capable of
achieving and maintaining high standards.
Just after we reopened The Triton we poached Guy Tolland from Medici's, a very well known restaurant just up the A63 at North Ferriby. In the last four years he has put in more hours and hard work than anyone else and helped make the Triton what it is today. Guy
brought a wealth of experiences in catering and hospitality
including peroiods as a Training Manager with national
hospitality and catering chain Allied Domecq, as the manager
of the much missed Exchange
restaurant at St Andrews Quay, and the Sailmakers Arms.
After three years at The Triton he moved to the East Riding
College at Bishop Burton as Director of Hospitality.
Early in 2011 however, we were delighted to welcome
him back to The Triton. He is still keen on exercise and is
currently getting into shape for a 10 kilometer run in the
Summer. He is seen on the left with his lovely wife Sam in the Triton kitchen. Deputy
Manager Tom Woodhead
(right) joined us last year from Hull City where he was a
goal-keeper on the youth team. Early in 2010 he spent some
time in Australia to pursue his career as a professional
sportsman, playing soccer for Sorrento FC. Tom is now back in Yorkshire and we are delighted he has rejoined the team at The Triton, where he is now an important part of our management team. He has since played for
Whitby FC and for Scarborough FC, where he was a leading
light of their 2010-2011 season side producing some saves
that have been described in the Evening
News as "world class".
Tom has now has moved on to Brigg Town FC, who are known as the Zebras where he exercises his cat like abilities between the sticks at Hawthorn Avenue most Saturdays for the Lincolnshire side's first team games. In
the Triton kitchen, we have one of the strongest and most
experienced brigades of chefs in the East Riding, capable
of preparing either traditional pub fare, or first class
a la carte meals
and banquets.
![]() Our new Head Chef
is the excellent Danny
Poole, who re-joined us in
early 2011 after working at the Alison Hall restaurant in
Hedon for the past year. Danny went to South
Holderness School and Wilberforce College and began
his career as a commis Chef at the Mason Cafe Bar on
Princess Dock Side in Hull, before moving to the Timber
Dock Taven in Hull, then across the road to the Platform
One Hotel as Chef de Partie. He had a few months
at Luciano's
restaurant in a similar role and then moved to the Dine
on the Rowe in Beverley as Head Chef in Training,
before first joining the Triton two years ago.

As well as being a keen rugby League fan
(playing and watching) he plays golf (when he gets
the time!) Danny is a very conscientious and passionately
keen chef who has some great plans for developing our
menus and our menu now features many of his own special
recipes and dishes. On November 8th, Danny became a father
for the first time, to two lovely girls, Imogen and
Isabella.
Simon has been working in kitchens in the East Riding for five years now and joined us after several years at the Hotel Elizabethan at North Ferriby and the Green Dragon at Welton. He lives in a nearby village with his wife Angie and son Alf. Other
key kitchen hands include Tim
Gaff,
seen
here on the left, who is shortly off back to Edinburgh
University. Our chefs are assisted by Kitchen Assistants such as Jordan Sayers (seen here on the right) as well as part time assistants Ben and Chris. Welcoming you to The Triton is likely to be one of our 'Front of House' team. Members of our FOH team are all welcomers (a very important job at the Triton), waitresses, bar staff and table clearers we all do the same jobs, which is looking after our customers and making them feel welcome. ![]()
Recently promoted to be deputy manager is
Lewis Barmby, seen on the left. Lewis has been at
The Triton for a couple of years now
and is one of our most valued team members. Jake (Jacob) May (on the right) joined us just before Christmas 2010 and is studying at South Hunsley during the day. He has worked in media and at Medici's as well as at Humber Growers. Several of our staff are usually away at University during term time and we only see them during the holidays. It's a good job they get such long holidays! Our team always try and
make everyone welcome at The Triton - we won't always
greet you at the door with a glass of Bucks Fizz on the red
carpet, but you will always be assured of a warm welcome
from Tom Woodhead, Lewis
Barmby, Dominic Carty, Albert Weatherall, Ellie Dunwell,
Connie Rawding, Fiona Colling, Katie Pearson, Megan Clarke
and Charlotte Amers - not to mention Paul
and Anne!

is East Yorkshire's keenest female Hull RLFC fan who
studied accountancy at Hull College and now lives in
Market Weighton. She worked at the Griffin in the town
there until she joined the elite Triton team.
Ellie Dunwell (on the left) is something of a high flyer who usually arrives for her shifts in a chauffeur-driven Jaguar! She is also a South Hunsley girl, where she is expecting 13 top Grades in her GCSEs and hopes to do a 5 / 6 year medical degree to qualify as a Predication. She came first in the Lifestyle Awards in 2007 after coming in as a runner up in 2005 and 2006 and has won other awards too, for sport and dance.

Here below are Charlie Reed, Georgina Tognola (who just left us in January 2012 for a life in Spain, but we are sure she will be back one day) Anne, Ellie Dunwell and Katie Pearson.

The
Triton
Roll of Honour (Former Staff who we miss quite a lot) ![]() Vince
McPherson, joined us before we reopened The Triton
and was a key member of the team who helped
rebuild and relaunch The Triton. Vince literally
helped design the new look for The Triton, travelled the
country searching out suitable furniture, fixtures and
fittings and then physically helped install much of what you
see today.
Since
then Vince has worked relentlessly to keep The Triton
running. Vince had previously worked at such famous
bars as the Victoria in Fife and The Crypt in York. He
has now decided to move his career on and works in
management in Hull City Centre, but we're sure you will
still see him at The Triton from time to time.

their fame and fortune. Amy could well be next year's Liza
Minelli and Vicky is reading English at the University of
Westminster.
![]() Amy
Dickinson (Dicko) . . . well, what can
one say about Amy that hasn't already been said! She is one of
our most experienced former staff having run a pub in Beverley
and helped her Mum with their excellent award-winning "cafe in
the woods" at Raywell and she became a key member of our
team. Amy is also a fabulous actress, dancer and singer,
and has now gone off to London to seek her fame and
fortune. We love to see her when she comes back to East
Yorkshire (but we hide the Jameson's bottle!) - come back soon

or Amy Darling as she is better known. Ashleigh
Dunn previously worked at Langlands Garden Centre in
Shiptonthorpe and joined us in 2009. She was at the time a
media student at the renowned Hallam University in Sheffield.
Ashleigh did a year of media at college in York last year and
was thinking of making a film about her car and its breakdowns
on the A1034. Ashleigh has one of the biggest brightest widest smiles and loves seeing people enjoy themselves. She is busy planning to tour across the USA in a motorhome (or RV as our Yankee cousins call them) and is keen to hear suggestions about where she should visit to pursue a possible career in film or TV filming. ![]() This is the bright cheery smile

a merchant banker and currently lives in New York.
Caroline
Wride and Ollie (AKA Gokwan) who spent much of
their time here being
amused by the chefs! Two great young FOH staff, they
have now moved on with their careers.
Returning
to
the Triton from time to time is our dear old pal, Richard
Fwa. He ran away to join the police force for a
while, but is now back hlping his amily out on otheir hotel
development in Nigeria. One of lifes great characters, Richard is always jetting off to some exotic land. We're sure he will be back at The Triton again in the not too distant future, so perhaps one of you ladies could grabhim, marry him and settle him down so we can have his services here a bit longer?
