THE TRITON TEAM The Triton team are one of
the
establishment's star attractions. They are often the reason our
customers select us for their fine dining experience, and why they come
back time after time. The Triton's first class reputation was
built on top quality service, and for many years was the flagship
of the Jackson's' chain of Eating Houses, which included the Ferguson
Fawcett at Walkington, the Pipe and Glass at South Dalton and the Dacre
Arms at Brandesburton.
Leading the team are
owners Paul and Anne Rusling. They
have run several pubs in London & the south east such as
the Halfway House in Dunstable
(a huge place, now the headquarters of the Beefeater chain), the Black
Lion on the banks of the Thames at Chiswick Mall, The Crystal Palace
Hotel in south London where they promoted reggae concerts with artists
such as Desmond Dekker and other music genres, the Swan Hotel on
the Pantiles in Royal
Tunbridge Wells and the Punch Tavern in Whitstable, a well known
pirates' haunt, which was used as a base for a radio station set up by
Screaming Lord Sutch. Anne has managed several well known local restaurants and night clubs, from Berni Inns, through Wakefield Tiffany's, to five star silver service establishments, while most of Paul's non-catering work has been in radio. He began working as a Disc Jockey in night clubs while still at school and has been resident DJ in Hull at such well known establishments as the Bier Keller, Tiffany's (The Locarno in Hull), Scamps and Baileys. His broadcast career includes stints on Radio Caroline where he hosted the breakfast show in the early 1970s and with Laser 558, Sky Radio, Classic FM, Virgin and several European stations. A radio adventurer, Paul has worked on new radio ventures in various countries, from the Isle of Man to Lithuania via Holland, Gemany and Poland. When Paul and Anne took over the Triton it was closed and had no staff, enabling them to build a new team from scratch. Having been regular customers at the Triton themselves, as well as at selected other restaurants in the area for around twenty years, they were able to carefully select the first class team the Triton needed, using the best staff available, capable of achieving and maintaining high standards. In charge of the restaurant and food operations is Guy Tolland who was formerly the
Maitre'D at Medici's, a very well known
restaurant
just up the A63 at North Ferriby and many of our customers
remember
him from there. Before that Guy was manager at the renowned and
sadly-missed Exchange on St. Andrew's Quay in Hull. That was bulldozed
a
couple of years ago to make way for the new retail development
(the site is now occupied by a Curry's store and a branch of an
international franchise operation - Frankie & Benny's). After that Guy worked for a while at the Sailmakers Arms on St Andrew's Quay and also at a couple of restaurants out in remotest in Holderness. Some years ago Guy was also Training Manager for Allied Domecq, one of the UK's leading hospitality chains. Guy originally comes from the Wirral and is a keen Liverpool FC supporter which means that he is always ready for ups and downs! He probably works more hours than anyone else and cycles ten miles to work each morning - that's real dedication. ![]() Responsible for bar operations is Vince McPherson, who has a wealth of expertise under his belt working at such famous bars as the Victoria in Fife and The Crypt in York for example. Vince has been at the Triton since before we reopened and as our first manager was a key member of the team who helped rebuild and relaunch The Triton. Vince literally helped design the new look for The Triton, travelled the country searching out suitable furniture, fixtures and fittings and then physically helped install much of what you see today. He is also something of an expert in nutrition, a bit of a keep fit fanatic who likes o go running every day and is very knowledgable about cars - his dad John is a fitter at the country's leading bus company in Scotland. We have what we believe are one of the strongest and most experienced brigades of chefs in the East Riding, capable of preparing either traditional pub fare, or first class a la carte meals and banquets. Our Head Chef is the excellent NICK LYON, who joined us from Dante Restaurant in West Hull. ![]() Nicks career in catering began at the legendary Wortley Arms Hotel in Scunthorpe as a commis chef. He then ran his own Buttercross Restaurant in Lincolnshire for many years before joining Lincolnshire's best Italian eating house, Elio's Restaurant in Barton on Humber. Nick spent eight exciting years with Elio before hopping across the bridge to become Head Chef at the renowned Casa Mazonni. Arguably Hull's best fish restaurant, its definitely sadly missed by many of its former patrons. He spent eight very happy and successful years there before helping set up a new venture in Hull, called Dante's. Nick has now moved to East Yorkshire's best place to eat and be seen (that's The Triton by the way!). We hope he is here for at least 8 years too! A recent signing to our brigade of chefs is Christian Fletcher. Doug Crouch joined our brigade recently - he has extensive culinary expertise going back to the early 1990s when he joined the Army. He works alongside Ryan MacPherson, who is a trainee chef, and one who shows much promise. Ryan recently won a prize at college for his desserts - they really are deliciously yummy and all home made (except the ice-cream, we buy that in from yorkshire Dales Ice cream up in Bolton Abbey) Also working really hard are our Kitchen Assistants Andy Sutton, (currently MIA with a broken foot after a motorbike accident), Tommy Harrison, Tom Himsworth, and others who don't want their names mentioning (we are all very modest and shy at the Triton!). All are proud Yorkshiremen and live in nearby villages of Brough, Elloughton, South Cave, Newbald, etc. 'Front of House' Welcoming you to The Triton is likely to be one of our 'Front of House' team. Members of our FOH team are all welcomers (a very important job at the Triton), waitresses, bar staff and table clearers - we all do the same jobs. Several of our staff are usually away at University during term time and we only see them during the holidays. It's a good job they get such long holidays! Speaking of holidays always makes us think of Sophie Wyatt, a real Brantingham beauty, who usually has about six holidays a year - Sophie loves to ski, fly, visit Australia, work in bars all over the world and so on, but she always turns up back at the Triton. Sophie is an old girl of Hymers College, a first class hockey player and one of the nicest girls you could hope to meet (thats what she told us
to
say!). They are ably assisted by Luke Duerden (who is seen below with his ever welcoming smile). Luke is our second Liverpool FC fan and if he is missing on Saturdays its because he is traveling the length and breadth of the country watching either the Tigers or those boys in red. His Sundays off are spent playing soccer for one of the local football teams, either Elloughton or South Cave United. Luke is also a student during the week at the college in Bishop Burton where he is studying to be a PE teacher. Albert and Patrick manning the
bar
Amanda Major has lived in the
area for many years and used to be c child care
assistant at the
Leapfrog Nursery in
Brough, so has
probably looked after you or your children at some time in the past -
she is
certainly good at keeping the young boys in the kitchen in check when
they are being naughty. Her hobbies include sampling Stella and
nights out in such exotic places as Leeds and Manchester, not to
mention Las Vegas. We're all hoping she doesn't get married on
her trip there in March, as that would surely break too many hearts.![]() We are also delighted to have some of Brantingham village's fairest maidens - Vicky Shearer for example, who adorns our Home page, and Sophie Wyatt are both treasured members of the Triton team. Vicky
was born in Yorkshire, Bradford in fact, but has lived in Brantingham
since she was six. She moved to London a few months agoto pursue a
career in fashion marketing so will be much missed but returns from
time to time to do as many shifts as she can cram in, she loves The
Triton and our customers so much! Despite sharing her surname with a
legendary England footballer she has no real love for the beautiful
game (but loves footballers!).Sophie has a fair bit of wanderlust and has just returned from a few months wandering the Antipoedes, but is now back 'in harness' to the delight of all the guys at the Triton. Sophie is a Hymers College old girl, a very accomplished hockey player and one of the nicest girls you could hope to meet (thats what she told us to say!). Her sister Annie also worked here for a few hours recently - so short a stay we didn't even get time for a picture! If you hear any of our staff singing, they are probably called Amy Dickinson. A fully trained vocalist with remarkable attributes, she really ought to be on the stage! Until some well known director casts her as the next West End musical star however, we are delighted to have her company as much as possible. She also makes a delicious pork pie and many other dishes but doesn't get much chance at the Triton where she is invariably 'out front'. STOP PRESS - Amy is now appearing 'on stage' in London, though we hope to get her back for you one day. One of our recent
recruits is Ashleigh Dunn who
previously worked at Langlands Garden Centre in Shiptonthorpe and is
now a media student at the renowned Hallam University in Sheffield.
Ashleigh did a year of media at college in York last year and is
thinking of making a film about her car and its breakdowns on the
A1034. She has one of the biggest brightest widest smiles and
loves seeing people enjoy themselves. Caroline Wride is also a welcome addition to our team - she worked at the prestigious Black Horse in Ellerker so knows her way around a menu, as do her fellow new recruits. Ask her to do her famous Zombie dance from Michael Jackson's Thriller video - she could be Michael Jackson's sister! Completing our
front of house team are several more great young
guys: Patrick Carty,
(right) who
previously commanded a team of five waiters - so if he gets a bit
bossy, you know why. Patrick is usually only with us at holiday times
as
he is now a student at Northumbria University. Georgina Tognola, who was brought up in the village, also recently joined us but works so fast we dont get chance to get their picture to include here! Look out also for the newer boys Matthew Stow,(seen above, hovering somewhere above Ashleigh's head!). He's a great bon viveur and socialite of the area as well as an accomplished skier. ![]() NEW RECRUITS Recently joining The Triton's team are a couple of young faces from Market Weighton - a brother and sister act called Madeleine and Jordan Smith. They have both worked at the Griffin, a well known pub on Sancton Road in Market Weighton and both attendedthe legendary Market Weighton High School. Madeleine is now training to be a chef at Hull College, so if you want to see her dancing around the tables front of house, now is the time, before she gets whisked off into the kitchen for some serious grill work (Chefs always get whisked away or poached, although some of ours occasionally get scrambled!). Jordan is doing his A levels at the moment; a mixture of media studies, ICT, business and psychology (plenty of portactice for him at the Triton then!) in preparation for his intended career as a teacher. Albert
Weatherill, on the left, who is also a 'holidays mainly' member
of team as
he is at Nottingham University where he reads (not sure of the
subject, but he mostly reads his own Facebook
site). David Woodhead is one of our best discoveries who is new to the business but is already loving every minute of his time at The Triton, he is one of East Yorkshire's best young golf players and widely regarded as the area's top scratch players. David's brother Tom Woodhead joined us late last year but has just left in January to pursue his career as a professional sportsman, playing soccer in Australia. We wish him every success 'down under' and plan to post up details of his success on our notice board and one here. Michael Willey is one of East Yorkshire's best young footballers who scored dozens of goals for North Ferriby over a five year period. He also played for Barnsley but his game was ruined by when he broke his arm in four places playing rugby for school. It took a whole box of screws and a year to fix, he will show you his scars if you catch him on a good day. He can now even carry two plates at once and sometimes remembers to clear the tables as well! Mike is seen here with the Lovely Liz - obviously some sort of angel sent down to care for him. So thats six of our team are also Old Hymerians and all are keen to welcome YOU to the Triton. ![]() Returning to the Triton once again is our dear old pal, Richard Fwa, who many of you will remember worked here last year. He ran away to join the police force for a while, but is now back 'behind bars' at The Triton, or whirling his way around the dance floor, as the mood takes him. One of lifes great characters, Richard is likely to be jetting off to some exotic land again in the not too distant future, so perhaps one of you ladies could grab him, marry him and settle him down so we can have his services here a bit longer? Richard Fwa
seen here giving dancing lessons to Alice from Tranby! Deputy Manager Luke Duerden and his
ever welcoming
